North End or Little Italy, Boston is the oldest neighborhood for English Puritans since the early 1600s. Little Italy is the heaven for people who love Italian food and seafood.
By: Ryan & AbhinavHere are 5 restaurants that you should try when you visit this neighborhood:
1. Neptune Oyster
63 Salem St # 1, Boston, MA 02113
This restaurant open at 11.30am and I suggest you to come before that time to make reservation unless you want to spend more than 2 hours waiting before you can enjoy your food. One thing that you should keep in mind that this restaurant does not take phone reservation. They only take on-site reservation, which mean you have to come early and make reservation in person. So I do not recommend you to come during lunch time or when you are very hungry to make reservation, since you will starve to death waiting. When you go to the restaurant you should expect the waiters to ask your phone number for reservation and they will notify you once your table is ready. While waiting, you can explore the area around Little Italy. You can visit historical sites such as Old North Church, Holocaust Memorial, The Paul Revere House, and Copp's Hill Burying Ground.
The food in Neptune Oyster was really great especially the Yellowfin Tuna menu with avocado spread and North End Cioppino. They also got lobster roll, which I think it is worth to try. We will discuss about the best lobster in a few weeks.

2. Daily Catch
323 Hanover St, Boston, MA 02113
Another popular restaurant in the area is Daily Catch. Even though the place seems not really that fancy, but they sell good stuffs. The place itself is smaller than Neptune Oyster, so you have to be patient before it comes to your turn. And we cannot make a phone reservation but instead we have to stay in line before we got served. One of their signature dish is the famous black ink pasta, which I really loved and also bunch of other
special menus available.
3. Mare Oyster Bar
3 Mechanic St, Boston, MA 02113
This restaurant served a wide variety of seafood dishes. You might need a little bit effort to find this restaurant, since it is located in a quiet hidden area. The alley where the restaurant located is laid somewhere on the Hanover Street. I ordered Tagliatelle
Con Aragosta last time, which was very good. It has unique Italian touch to it that make the dish stand out. I also ordered wild boar pappardelle, which also makes me scream for more.

4. Giacomo’s Ristorante
355
Hanover St, Boston, MA 02113
I had heard a lot about this place in North End and that too from
many people. Everytime I went to North End and crossed this restaurant, I saw a
long line of people outside this restaurant waiting for their chance to go in,
so I used to postpone my plan of going there everytime. I found this very
surprising. So finally, one day me and my friend decided to go to Giocomo’s. As
expected, the line was long, it actually had twice the people in it which could
actually fit in. When we were waiting in the line, we played a few games to
kill time, we had to wait for 45 minutes, but it was worth the wait. The
food was amazing there. The service was great there. One important thing
I would like to tell you that this restaurant is cash only. This place
is tiny but the staff working there, knows very well how to run it efficiently.
Everything their tasted good, from fried calamari to their bread. But one thing
I would strongly recommend is their house special Zuppe di pesce with
Fracomo sauce, which comprises of Lobsters, Clams, Scallop, Calamari,
Mussels, Shrimps. I believe this is the best dish at that place and is
priced at approx. $55, and is worth it!.
5. Mamma Maria
3 N Square, Boston, MA 02113
One fine evening, I was having a walk with my close friend, in and
around North End area. We were not sure where to go. After a few minutes we
entered a street on the right hand side of the main street where most of the main
restaurants are located, this street was a bit quiet and peaceful, and after a
minute walk, we saw this beautiful view and in there was a restaurant named
Mamma Maria. The scenery looked beautiful. Both of us knew and decided to try this restaurant. There are so many restaurants in North End, but this
one is different from all. The moment we entered we got a very good and
rustic feeling. The staff here was extremely good and very nice. Mamma Maria is a
high-end restaurant. In terms of food, I would rate it 10 on 10. I like their bread. We ordered their signature lobster ravioli and the scallop
appetizer which were perfect. Also, the duck was very tasty. The wine here
tasted great, I think the beautiful ambiance added something special to it. This
restaurant is beautiful and well decorated. From the food, the service, the
conversations, the wine, the staff...everything was perfect. My evening there
was very special and memorable. Both of us loved the place and had an amazing
time. I would strongly recommend this place if you want to take someone on a
date.

ReplyDeleteA few Gems are missing here, but I am also biased. First when mentioning the north end you can’t forget about pizza and there is no better than Pizarria Regina’s (11 1/2 Thatcher St) infamous for their brick oven goodness. For a nicer dinner I would recommend Artu (6 Prince St) best chicken parmigiana in Boston and for $1 more they will add some delicious eggplant parmigiana on top. If you want a different dish, no problem I have yet to try something there that I do not like and the prices are affordable for the North End.
DeleteWith that said, a evening in the North End is not complete without dessert. Most tourist will claim Mikes Pastry is where to go. However, it’s amateur hour over there and in my opinion a true tourist trap. Sure they make a decent cookies, but cookies are a dime a dozen. If you want a cannoli the visit Modern Pastry (257 Hanover St). Their filling is the best and each cannoli is filled to order, meaning that each shell will be fresh and crispy. However, the real places to be are always hidden on the side streets. Visit Bova’s (134 Salem St) for a delicious creme filled lobster tail; and don’t worry about getting there before close, it’s 24/7.
Thank you for your recommendations Matthew Watson. We will try some of the restaurants that you recommended. I love Mike's pastry too.
