Back on April 13, 1743, Thomas Jefferson, who is one of the authors of the Declaration of Independence, was born in Virginia. The Declaration of Independence, which one of the important document in American history or even world history, proclaimed that “All men are created equal” and had basic rights such as “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” It claimed that the people could “alter or abolish” a government that breaks these rights.
Jefferson ordered Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to explore some of the areas that still untouched by people. The expedition is known today as the Corps of Discovery which started in the year of 1804 to 1806. This discovery also plays an important role in providing a bunch of valuable information to the geography, American Indian tribes, and other living creatures of the western part of the continent.
To memorize Jefferson’s service to the country, a Jefferson Memorial was build close to the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. And also his face was printed on the $2 change, the nickel coin and as one of the figures of Mount Rushmore.
